Children’s Music Festivals in Worcestershire: Performance Opportunities for Young Musicians

Performance Opportunities for Young Musicians

There is a moment every young musician remembers: the first time they step onto a stage, take a breath, and play. Hearts race, palms sweat, and then the music begins and something shifts. For many of our pupils at LP Music Tuition, that first performance becomes the moment everything else is built on.

Learning an instrument is only half the story. The other half happens in front of an audience, whether that is three grandparents in a living room or three hundred strangers in a festival hall. A children’s music festival gives that second half somewhere proper to happen: a stage, a real audience, and adjudication from someone who knows exactly what they are listening for. Worcestershire is fortunate to have a strong calendar of these events on its doorstep, and we are keen for as many of our pupils as possible to take part.

Why performing matters

A festival appearance offers far more than a trophy on the shelf. Pupils receive proper adjudication from experienced musicians, specific feedback, encouraging and genuinely useful for their next lesson. They set a goal to work towards, which tends to sharpen practice at home more effectively than any amount of reminding ever could. They meet other young musicians who share the same nerves and the same enthusiasm, and they come away having tried something difficult and managed it, often rather brilliantly. We have watched pupils who were once too shy to play for their own family walk off a festival stage standing a little taller.

Worcestershire Creative Arts Festival

One of the county’s best-known performance festivals is the Worcestershire Creative Arts Festival, known locally as WCAF. Established in 1951, it welcomes performers of all ages and abilities in a friendly, supportive environment, with classes across music, drama, speech and creative writing. Competitors receive professional adjudication, and medals, trophies and invitations to perform at the Festival Concert are awarded in selected classes.

We are delighted that LP Music Tuition will be working more closely with WCAF for the 2027 festival. Following conversations with the committee, we are helping to introduce new beginner-friendly classes, opening the festival up to pupils who may never have performed competitively before. Entries for 2027 are expected to open in September, and we will let our families know the moment they do.

Worcester Music Festival

Although very different in style, the Worcester Music Festival is another wonderful celebration of music within the county. Held every September, it fills Worcester city centre with hundreds of live performances across multiple venues, showcasing emerging artists, local musicians and community performers while raising money for charity. For our older pupils in particular, it is an excellent opportunity to hear live music in every direction and draw inspiration from performers across many different genres, all within walking distance of home.

ABRSM Music Medals

Not every performance opportunity has to be a competition. For younger pupils who are still building their nerve, ABRSM Music Medals offer a gentler route into performing, celebrating solo and ensemble playing through a supportive assessment rather than head-to-head adjudication. Laura, founder of LP Music Tuition, is a trained ABRSM Music Medals assessor, so our pupils prepare for these awards with someone who understands exactly what they involve from the inside. For many families, it is the ideal first step before a pupil feels ready for a full festival class.

Performing with LP Music Tuition

Alongside these local festivals, we build regular performing into life at LP Music Tuition itself. Summer and winter concerts give every pupil a stage to work towards twice a year. Informal studio afternoons let younger or newer pupils play for a handful of friendly faces before anything more formal, and we take part in community events across Worcestershire throughout the year. Our summer holiday clubs close with a performance of their own, often the proudest five minutes of a child’s week. Between festival preparation and these regular opportunities, most of our pupils are performing several times a year long before they ever sit a graded exam.

Thinking about entering a music festival?

Many parents worry that festivals are only for advanced musicians, but in reality, most programmes include classes designed specifically for beginners, and the experience is about personal progress as much as achievement. A first festival class rarely goes the way anyone expects, and that is usually the point: pupils come away having learned something about themselves that a lesson at home could never quite teach.

If you have been searching for music festivals near me and are not sure where to start, that is exactly the sort of question we like to help with. We know the local calendar well and can point you towards whichever event suits your child’s stage, instrument and confidence right now.

If you are unsure whether your child is ready, we would be happy to talk it through and suggest a class or event to suit where they are now, whether they are learning piano, guitar, drums or singing with us.

Ready to get started?

Whether your child dreams of performing on stage, working towards their first exam, or simply enjoying music as a lifelong hobby, we would love to help them begin. If they are already having lessons with us, ask your teacher about upcoming festival opportunities at your next session. If you are new to LP Music Tuition, contact us today to arrange a first lesson and discover how music can help your child grow in confidence, creativity and skill.
