Laura’s Biography

Laura studied classical piano under the tutelage of world-renowned pianist, musicologist and lecturer, Beryl Chempin at her home in Moseley, Birmingham (in conjunction with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire). During her studies, Laura achieved high distinctions in Grades 1-8 ABRSM piano, including the highest mark in the UK for her grade 8 piano examination, and proceeded to study music further at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Abbey College after being awarded scholarships. Laura began performing as a solo pianist in her teen years under Beryl’s direction and played numerous recitals and competitions including famous works by Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and many more.

Alongside the piano, Laura studied classical singing with Andrea Calladine and Alison Stevens and achieved grades 1-8 ABRSM. Laura’s singing performing career began at the young age of three where she sang with the Bournville Children’s Choir, as well as the CBSO Children’s and Senior Youth Choruses, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Laura regularly participated in music festivals, including the International Eisteddfod, in Llangollen (Wales).

Much valuable experience was gained from this early exposure, including many tours around Europe, performing in some of the most prestigious venues around the world, including The BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall in London, The Blue Peter Proms at The Royal Festival Hall in London, the opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games at the Bridgwater Hall in Manchester, The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and many more, and Laura has had the privilege of working with some of the world’s best artists.

Laura studied BA Music for Education and Community Practice at the University of Wolverhampton, achieving a first class honours degree and being awarded the Worfield Charity Concert Prize for the highest degree classification in her cohort. Laura continues to study at a postgraduate level in the field of Educational Psychology.

A keen teacher too, Laura has continued putting her knowledge, skills and experience to good use over the past two decades through private tutoring, music curriculum teaching and accompanying musical events for schools and private individuals in her home county, Worcestershire. Laura has a specialism and passion for working with children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and has developed a bank of effective teaching and learning strategies to support inclusive practice. Laura teaches from age 4 upwards and has a 100% pass rate for those who have taken graded examinations.
